Your wedding is made up of both big, splashy moments and quiet, unexpected ones. And your photographer will try to capture all of these in order to create the wedding album of your dreams. How can you help them do this? One way is to know what to do with the photographer(s) during brunch or dinner time.

Here are a few tips any couple can apply.

1. Treat Them as a Guest

Are you wondering if you are supposed to provide a meal for your photographer and their team? The answer is generally, yes. But go beyond this and treat them as a guest when it comes to the meal. Ask about their meal preference and any food sensitivities. Let them enjoy their meal in peace. Let them know they're welcome to appetizers, a bar, or even the champagne toast.

2. Place Them In the Action

Where will your wedding photographer sit during food service? Some couples place them in an unobtrusive location or sometimes even in another room. But you want them right in the center of the action. Unexpected special moments happen at any time, so don't bury your photographer where they cannot see and quickly respond to them.

3. Give Them a Timeline

Plan out your wedding day timeline in advance — with input from the photographer — and provide a written copy to vendors, wedding party members, and others. Make sure the photographer knows how much time they have to enjoy their meal. This helps them plan accordingly, resulting in both a nourished photographer and preparedness for the next activities.

4. Provide Easy Access

When planning where to seat photographers, think about how they will get to and from the main activities. Will they have a straight line to the head table, cake table, dance floor, or family tables, for example? Provide as much unobstructed and close access as is feasible. Your guests will thank you and the photographer will get better shots.

5. Feed Them When You Eat

Vendor mealtimes are a tricky subject. Some vendors prefer to eat on a different schedule than guests or wedding party members. Talk with your photographer about their preference. One of the best choices is to serve them when the newlyweds are eating as well. After all, you probably don't want a lot of (or any) pictures of yourself eating.
